Depp Promises A More Fun, Easier, Pirates

Johnny Depp Promises Fun And Easy Pirates

It's no secret at all that the second and third Pirates movies were… not very coherent.

And it's definitely no secret to Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski either, who have vowed that the 4th and all other Pirates movies to come will be more character driven, fun, and irreverent!

Here's what Johnny had to say:

"They had to invent a trilogy out of nowhere."

"It was plot-driven and complicated. I remember talking to [Gore Verbinski] at certain points during production of 2 or 3 and saying, 'I don't really know what this means.' He said, 'Neither do I, but let's just shoot it.' This guy is this guy's dad, and this guy was in love with this broad. It was like, 'What?'"

"I felt it was very important to eliminate as many complications as possible. Let's give (fans) something character-driven. Something fun and irreverent. Hoops of fire and whatnot. New blood, as it were."

This is definitely the way it needs to go. Especially if they're going to turn it into a sort of each installment-is-a-standalone-James-Bond-type of franchise!

We go to see Pirates to have fun, not to work out brains around convoluted side stories! Blow up pirate ships! Show us mermaids!

On Stranger Tides comes out May 20th!

Do U agree with the direction they're going??
