You know, the one that's cited as one of the catalysts to the whole thing? That one. And he's got a 7 figure book deal for it too.
Awesomely, not only did Wael Ghonim set in motion the inspiration people needed to start an uprising, but he plans on donating the proceeds of his book to charity that he founded to fight poverty and support education.
If for some reason you don't know who he is:
Ghonim is an Egyptian who has overseen Google's marketing in the Middle East and Africa. He became a key part of organizing protests through a Facebook page he started in honor of Khaled Said, a 28-year-old businessman who died in June at the hands of undercover police, a hated institution for many Egyptians.
Soon after rallies began calling for the ouster of Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, Ghonim said he was snatched off the street and spent much of his detention blindfolded. Upon his release, he confirmed reports that he was the administrator of the Facebook page.
Wael Ghonim's Revolution 2.0 is comin' out Jan. 25, and after all the buzz at the London Book Fair, bids exploded past a couple million dollars.
It'll be great to see how well it does. Ghonim too a sabbatical from Google to write it.
